Perfume Knock-Offs May Be Rip-Offs

Filed under: Articles — admin @ 12:00 am

Intrigued by the flux of knock-off perfumes available on the market today? It might be a little difficult to fight off the temptation to experiment with these things. After all, they seem cheaper than the perfumes that they imitate. And, they seemingly smell as good as the original, right? At first sight, they seem like a mighty fine bargain! Or not. Think about this for a minute or two.

In the eyes of the Better Business Bureau, some knock-off perfumes qualify as counterfeit merchandise. Patent laws in the United States serve to protect a business from losing sales to copy-cat (and sometimes inferior) products. So when you’re looking at a bottle of knock-off perfume, you just might be looking at something that was illegally produced, most likely supported by, funded by, or otherwise involved in terrorism and other similar crimes.

Aside from the legal aspect of the perfume business, consumers may actually put themselves at risk by using knock-off perfumes. Because they’re produced offshore, knock-off’s aren’t legally required to conform to US regulations set by the Food & Drug Administration. As a result, you may be faced with a product that causes a rash, illness, or worse - death (although that’s highly improbable). The important thing to know is that US regulations set by the FDA exist for a reason; and that’s to prevent things like product related rashes, illnesses, and/or death (again, improbable, yet possible).

From a customer’s point of view, these products simply don’t compare to their genuine originals. They’re not as potent; they don’t last as long; and they don’t really smell like the real thing. At best, their lingering scent may last thirty to forty minutes whereas the real deal can last all day, even into the evening. Quite simply, they’re not worth the money and their manufacturers know that. That’s why they’re priced so cheaply.

You don’t have these concerns when you purchase genuine perfumes. Genuine perfume follows FDA regulations. If it’s imported from abroad, it’s done so legally. In addition, genuine perfumes cause little to no allergic reaction (depending upon what allergies are present in the consumer), and their scents last longer. There’s a reason why they’re priced higher than their knock-offs. That’s because they have a higher concentration of fragrance oils. Genuine perfume just won’t lose its effect in half an hour like the others do.

Some people are mistakenly under the impression that knock-offs will save them money.

In the long run, genuine perfumes are the real money savers because of their concentrations. When a perfume has a high fragrance oil concentration, less of it is necessary, so it lasts longer.

For example, you might find a knock off perfume spray available for sale at for five dollars and a small 4 ounce bottle of a genuine fragrance available for a hundred dollars. You would need to use an entire bottle of the knock off scent just to get the same concentration in one dab of its genuine version. And as you can see, that’s no bargain at all!

Perfumes by the Hair Color

Filed under: Articles — admin @ 12:00 am

It’s an interesting, yet little known, fact that your hair color can influence the way your favorite perfume performs on your body. No, we’re not talking about the color that you dye your hair. We’re talking about your natural hair color.

Black, red, brunette or blond, hair color is the direct result of human genes, genes that also determine our skin type. And, skin type influences how long perfume lasts. That means, although a perfume may seem to last forever on a friend, it might not last so long on you, and vice-versa.

Dark-haired beauties tend to have darkest skin due to a higher amount of melanin in their bodies. Since skin with a higher concentration of melanin tends to produce more oil, musks and woody perfumes used by black-haired individuals or brunettes will last longer by clinging to this natural oil.

Although redheads may have more melanin in their genes than blondes, their skin is usually quite fair and sensitive. So, appropriate perfumes for these beauties are fruity and citrus. Blonde beauties also have fair skin, but because their skin tends to easily dry, they would do well with long lasting floral and spice perfumes.

If you’re a blond or redhead, there are a few actions that you can take to encourage your perfume fragrances last longer. One of these activities is to layer yourself with a several different products of a perfume. Most fragrances are available as a set of scented creams, soaps, gels, powders, and oils. If you’re a person with fair or dry skin, you could shower with a scented soap or gel, moisturize with a scented cream or lotion, and then follow up with a few dabs, pumps, or sprays of concentrated perfume.

In the summer of course, you may prefer to replace your scented moisturizer with a scented powder. These combinations should last at least three hours or more. You may need to experiment with different combinations of these perfume products to come up with one that satisfies you and works best with your metabolism.

Another way to make the fragrance last longer is to apply it to pulse points. Do not neglect all parts of the body such as on the wrists, behind the ears, behind the knees, between the breasts, and on each side of the neck right under the chin.

The pulse points of a body are warmer and tend to intensify the scent of the perfume. And, of course, you can always reapply the later on in the day. If you prefer to maintain the fragrance througout the day, you may need to reapply your cologne or perfume once or twice a day.

Regardless of your hair color, one thing that you never want to do is to perfume your locks! Scalp oil is different from skin oil and may be thicker than the oil on your skin. This amount of oil can strengthen the scent of scent to the point where it’s a bit overwhelming. In addition, perfume contains alcohol, alcohol that can strip your hair of its natural oils and dry it.
